Catholic Charities network ranked 4th among the nation's largest nonprofits;
CCUSA also listed as one of the highest-rated charities by Charity Navigator

Released November 29, 2007

Alexandria, VA-The Catholic Charities network--more than 1,700 local agencies and institutions nationwide--has been ranked 4th among the nation's largest nonprofits in the country by The NonProfit Times, which publishes the oldest annual ranking of nonprofits in the country. To be included in the "NPT 100," nonprofits must raise at least 10 percent of their total revenue from public sources, such as individual donors and foundations.

This year, the Catholic Charities network also has been ranked 11th among the nation's largest fundraising organizations in the country by The Chronicle of Philanthropy. The Chronicle's Philanthropy 400 ranks the nation's largest nonprofits groups by how much money they raise from donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations. In 2006, Catholic Charities agencies across the nation received more than $755 million in private support.

The 2006 combined revenue of the Catholic Charities network was $3,618,612,105. Nearly 90 percent of these funds were spent on programs and services, making the Catholic Charities network one of the nation's most efficient charities. The network's expenses for 2006 were $3,557,184,687. In an effort to address and reduce poverty in America, local Catholic Charities agencies provide a myriad of vital services in their communities, ranging from day care and counseling to food and housing. In 2006, local Catholic Charities agencies provided help and created
hope for more than 7.8 million people in need, regardless of their religious, social, or economic backgrounds.

Entering this holiday season, Catholic Charities agencies across the country continue to face an ever-increasing need for services, especially for food. A new report from Catholic Charities USA, Poverty in America: Beyond the Numbers, found that local Catholic Charities agencies saw a 12 percent increase in the need for food service programs in 2006; and between 2002 and 2006, the number of clients receiving food services-such as soup kitchens, food banks and food pantries, home delivered meals and congregate dining-increased by 2.7 million, or nearly 60 percent.
