Senior AIDES Program (Title V)
For older adults who still want to be involved in the workplace, it can be
tough
to find jobs. Catholic Charities’ Senior AIDES Program offers the chance
to find meaningful work again—and to keep learning and growing.
Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of
Labor and operated in cooperation with Senior Service America, Inc.,
Senior AIDES subsidizes employment for low-income
seniors (age 55 and over) through community-service jobs at host companies
or organizations. Participants are able to gain valuable work experience
and have
the opportunity to learn new skills. The goal of the program is for the men
and women who participate to gain permanent, unsubsidized employment
that helps them
maintain their independence.
In fact, the acronym for the program stands for
Alert, Industrious, Dedicated, Energetic Service, terms that aptly
describe the seniors who get involved in
the program.
We currently service individuals in Adams, Allen,
DeKalb, Elkhart, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Marshall, Noble,
Steuben, St. Joseph, Wabash, Wells, and Whitley Counties.

Villa of the Woods
Villa of the Woods is a state-licensed residential facility for
older adults. All rooms are private with personal bath and
individually controlled heat
and air conditioning. This retirement community provides independence,
yet is staffed ’round
the clock so residents can receive assistance whenever it is needed. Housekeeping,
linen service, meals, and social activities are provided. The facility is conveniently
located in a wooded residential area close to the bus line, a public library
branch, and a shopping center.

The Villa
participates in the State Residential Care Assistance Program. This
program helps lower-income seniors
pay their room and board, and is based on the applicant’s income
and assets.

RSVP
Catholic Charities sponsors RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program),
a project of the Corporation
for National and Community Service.
RSVP mobilizes
people
55 and older to help meet a wide variety of community needs and
places volunteers based on their talents, interests, and
schedules. Volunteers
are placed
with local social service agencies, schools, libraries, hospitals,
parks, and
other nonprofit entities, and are covered by insurance while
performing their volunteer duties. They are recognized for their
volunteer efforts at annual recognition events.
RSVP
is offered in DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble, St. Joseph, Elkhart, and
Steuben counties.
A sister program of RSVP in St. Joseph County
is Busy Hands, in which volunteers knit, crochet, and sew nearly
15,000 items
a year
for
distribution to people
in need.

you can do to help others, contact the chapter in your area. Click
