We are combining forces to multiply our efforts.

In this unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Fort Wayne - South Bend, Lutheran Social Services of Indiana, and Brightpoint are combining resources to offer more comprehensive assistance solutions to residents of northern Indiana. Our goal is to help neighbors in need so we can get our area back up on its feet more quickly and get the economy moving again. To see if you qualify, call 211, which is a free and confidential service that helps Hoosiers across northern Indiana find the local resources they need or visit

Catholic Charities Changes to Operations:

Changes to our general operations:

For the protection of everyone, with the exception of food pantries, we are temporarily suspending walk-in guests at all of our sites: South Bend, Auburn and Fort Wayne during the COVID-19 pandemic. All services are by appointments only.

Changes to the VITA Tax program:

Beginning 3/25/20 thru 4/6/20, the all sites of the VITA Tax program will be suspended. All clients will receive calls to reschedule as soon as possible.

After 4/6/20: For the protection of the people we serve, our volunteers, our staff and the general public, and due to the closure of locations where we have been providing services, Catholic Charities has had to close VITA Tax Service sites in Kendallville, Angola and Ligonier amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Until further notice, Catholic Charities has reduced VITA Tax Service locations to one at our office in Auburn, IN at 107 5th Street 46706. Our volunteers are making every effort to reschedule individuals who had appointments at the sites that are now closed. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Please telephone Catholic Charities’ Auburn office at (260) 925-0917 for additional information.

Changes to our food pantries:

Our food pantries in Auburn and South Bend also have new protocols in place until further notice. In Auburn, our volunteers will deliver goods to clients' cars. South Bend clients will be asked to wait outside as our team gets their order together and brings it to them.

How You Can Help:

We are experiencing an unprecedented crisis with this Coronavirus pandemic. Because of widespread layoffs and related health issues, we are anticipating a great surge in requests for food, clothing, housing, transportation and other basics. To meet this urgent need here in our diocese, we are asking for your help in three ways:

First, pray for Our Lady’s protection and intercession in this great time of need.

Second, using recommended safety protocols, assist your neighbors, especially the elderly and most vulnerable.

Third, if possible, please make a financial contribution to our efforts to support those in great need in our diocese. Your donations are needed more than ever to aid those in our local area. You may also qualify for tax incentives.

  • $10.00 gifts help us keep our food pantries stock
  • $25.00 gifts help an out-of-work family pay for diapers and wipes
  • $50.00 gifts help cover family meals for a week
  • $75.00 gifts help pay for utility bills
  • $100.00 gifts pay part of a family’s rent
