Material Assistance Programs

Backpack Program

Every July the North Region office is bustling with the sounds of excited children receiving their very own stuffed backpacks.  The Pack A Backpack Program connects school-aged children in need with backpacks filled with the tools necessary to help them on their journey to educational success.  Catholic Charities partners with local organizations, community foundations, schools, businesses, and individual donors to pack backpacks with items such as pens, pencils, crayons, glue sticks, pocket folders, markers, rulers, notebooks and more.  The volunteers from our Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) then donate their time to collect, organize and distribute the backpacks to hundreds of children.  Please contact the North Region office at (260) 925-0917 for more information.

Share the Warmth Program

For many families in northern Indiana, buying coats for their growing children is a hardship. That is why our RSVP program partners with local clubs, churches, businesses and individuals on our annual coat drive. Through the generosity of donors, Catholic Charities is able to provide hundreds of coats, hats, mittens, gloves and scarves to our neighbors in DeKalb, Noble, LaGrange and Steuben counties. For more information about how to donate gently-used and new warm clothing items, please contact our Auburn office at (260) 925-0917. Our coat giveaway runs from October through January annually.
