Catholic Charities Receives Grant for Hispanic Health Advocate Program
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend (CCFWSB) is pleased to announce that it has received a two-year grant of $85,000 from the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation (St. Joe Foundation) to support its Hispanic Health Advocate (HHA) Program.
The HHA provides certified medical interpretation for Spanish-speaking clients, ensuring clear communication during medical, dental, and mental health appointments. From routine check-ups to urgent care visits, the program helps eliminate language barriers, transportation to appointments, and provides case management or referrals when needed.
For Alicia, this support was life-changing. After being diagnosed with two serious autoimmune diseases, she felt overwhelmed and uncertain about what her diagnosis meant. The HHA provided transportation and interpretation for every appointment, helping Alicia fully understand her condition and treatment options. With the program’s assistance, she found a medication that worked and regained peace of mind.
In the fiscal year of 2024-2025, the HHA program provided 656 services for 149 individuals. This vital work ensures that vulnerable families have equitable access to healthcare.
CCFWSB is deeply grateful to the St. Joe Foundation for its renewed commitment to improving health outcomes for the most underserved members of our community.
