RECAP: Diocesan Mental Health Ministries Retreat

Panelist: (L/R) Dr. Melanie Williams, Beth Hlabse, Dr. Alex Giltner, and Msgr. Michael Heintz

On October 24, 2026, our Catholic Charities Diocesan Mental Health Ministries team welcomed parishioners from throughout the diocese for a time of prayer, reflection, fellowship, and spiritual renewal. Rooted in our call to care for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—this event offered an opportunity to pause, reconnect with God, and reflect on how we are called to accompany one another through life's challenges.

We were especially honored to welcome Beth Hlabse of the Fiat Program at the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Alex Giltner, Secretary for Evangelization and Catechesis, and Monsignor Michael Heintz of St. Pius X, who shared their insights and perspectives through meaningful Q&A discussion. Their participation encouraged engaging and thoughtful conversation around the intersection of faith, mental health, and our call to compassionate accompaniment.

Through prayer, shared experiences, and meaningful conversation, we were reminded of the importance of compassion, community, and the hope we find in knowing we are never alone. It was a beautiful day of connection and renewal that inspired abundant hope as we continue working toward a culture where mental health challenges are met with understanding, dignity, and hope.
